DICKERSON NEWS LETTER

Number 6

December 1, 2005

Merry Christmas!

This newsletter is to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have enjoyed meeting each and every one of you at our Dickerson Research Days and reunions this year. I am so proud of all my new cousins and their interest in our family. I look forward to 2006 and the new information we may uncover in the Dickerson family. I feel we are going to make some big advances into the past, next year.

I had the great pleasure of attending a Dickerson reunion in North Carolina on the 13th of November. This is the family of Robert Henry Dickerson the 3rd born child of Nathan Dickerson. There were about 97 members of the Dickerson family there. The food was excellent, as it was good ole North Carolina southern cooking. I can still taste the North Carolina sweet potatoes with glazed pecans on top. One of the descendents of Robert Henry had the gun that Robert Henry used in the Civil War. Information was also produced that Robert Henry and his brother John Samuel Dickerson were in the same Company while in the war. Hopefully, these cousins will be visiting with us in May and bring the gun with him. Everyone there has so much to contribute. You may want to mark your calendars for the second Sunday in November 2006, so you can attend this great Dickerson reunion. It is only about 10 miles south of Danville, Virginia on US 29 just across the state line.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Drakes Branch Historic Museum in Drakes Branch, Virginia. It has very limited hours because of the lack of volunteers. However, the lady that runs it has given me her phone number and said she would meet us there almost anytime we may want to go by. Just let me know and I can make arrangements to have her open it if you want to go. It is well worth the visit! As for visiting museums, I know several of our family members have tried to get to the Appomattox Civil War Museum to see William Albert Dickerson's Civil War medals. Due to the lack of times the museum is open they have been unable to get in. Polly and Norman Dickerson are moving the medals to the Halifax County Museum in South Boston. Their hours are much more available. We will have the medals on display at our May meeting as we know it is hard for some of you to get to South Boston. Date for the May meeting will be set soon. I will inform as soon as I visit with Billy and Barbara Dickerson.

Polly and I will be participating in the Antebellum Christmas at “Mulberry Hill Plantation on December 3rd and 4th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM each day. They will be featuring Nathan Dickerson and his family and the time he spent on the plantation with his family. We will be dressed in period clothing and serving period refreshments. Speaking of Mulberry Hill Plantation, we have a great opportunity to purchase a Limited Edition Christmas ornament of “Mulberry Hill. It is a beautiful porcelain disc with a picture of the mansion on the front and Randolph, Virginia Historic Staunton River Foundation Limited Edition on the back. They are available for $10.00 and some of the proceeds will be used to help restore the overseer's house at Mulberry Hill. If you would like one, let me know and I will get it and drop it in the mail to you.

Again, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! My wish for the New Year is good health to all of my Dickerson family and that we will all be together in May. GOD bless you and your family and may 2006 be the best year of your life.

Thank you, to all of you who helped me check my email addresses. I had the location where I found the answer to the trivia question but have lost it. I have looked for it and can't give you the proof, so you will have to just take my word at to the number of muscles there are in the human ear. No one got the correct answer. The answer is 9.

Love,
